Excessive Length

Quote requests

When someone requests LTL quotes, we determine the length of the longest handling unit. That length determines whether we ask each carrier for an Excessive Length accessorial or not. For carriers with multiple tiers, we determine which accessorial to request.

BOL

If the carrier returns an itemized quote and one of the charges is Excessive Length, then we show Excessive Length on the BOL, along with the length of the longest handling unit.

• If the carrier's API doesn't return itemized quotes, we don't show it on the BOL.
• If we requested the Excessive Length accessorial, but they didn't include it as an itemized charge in their quote, we don't show it on the BOL.
• If they included an Excessive Length charge of $0, we don't show it on the BOL. (Some carriers always return the itemized charge, even when it doesn't apply, but with $0 for the amount.)
